POACHER PLUNDERS 📍Hermanus, Western Cape | 2021/10/02
Considered a delicacy in East Asian countries, a large quantity of Abalone was found in a vehicle travelling from Sanbaai towards the Onrus area in Hermanus.
The vehicle was stopped by Overstrand Law Enforcement members and an estimated R670 000 worth of precious Marine resources was recovered.
Also known as “White Gold'', the demand for this fleshy Perlemoen has soared; fueling a multibillion-dollar global export industry, and booming illicit trade from South Africa—plundering the Atlantic and Indian Ocean Sealife.
The single male driver was detained for the contravention of the Marine Living Resources act.
