    Navic.Cloud is a secure centralised system to provide various tools to the security industry specifically related to vehicles. Navic.Cloud forms the central system to tie together the various components, tools, functions, processing, equipment, and people and structures to implement the Navic.Cloud Ecosystem.

  • What is The Navic.Cloud Ecosystem?

    The core of the Navic.Cloud Ecosystem is a set of tools, functions and infrastructure to provide a near-real-time active and dynamic system in place to address crime and criminal behaviour. Many alternative services are borne from this core provision.

  • How does Navic.Cloud achieve this?

    Navic.Cloud pulls together best practices, tools, data and people such that South African citizens and communities in general can work together with Law Enforcement structures such that they can rapidly respond to Intelligence and act to apprehend criminals and protect lives and property. This is achieved by mimicking proven methodologies from SAPS and adopting their best practices.

  • Is Navic.Cloud Secure and Stable?

    YES! We have spent almost all our technical resources in 2019 specifically to ensure the security and stability of Navic.Cloud. Security is like mowing the lawn, the job is never finished. It is with this in mind that NAVIC™ has commissioned the development of the next generation system and structure with security and privacy as its core requirement such that we can move our PoPI Act compliant (Protection of Personal Information) system to GDPR (Data Protection Act to the EU General Data Protection Regulation) compliance. NAVIC™ sets the standard in the Industry for adherence to Standards and compliance.

  • How is NAVIC™ protecting me?

    NAVIC™ is a tech-for-good ecosystem that’s primary focus is fighting crime, and so through this mechanism law abiding citizens and law enforcement can draw on NAVIC™’s systems (suitable authority is required) in order to assist in this pursuit. The focus is utilising analytics in aid of social benefit for the communities in crime fighting initiatives, making safer communities and all of the benefits associated with this, and not to infringe law abiding citizens’ privacy. NAVIC™ stands strongly against the exploitation of law abiding citizens’ rights. NAVIC™ will NOT infringe citizens’ rights or operate outside of the law.

  • How do we best benefit from Navic.Cloud?

    For communities, connecting a network of ANPR cameras monitoring the entry points to your neighbourhood, and then subscribing to the Navic.Cloud ANPR Licenced Services (see ensures that the authorities are alerted to wanted vehicles in your neighbourhood.   • What is the PoPI Act?

    The Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act promotes the protection of personal information by public and private bodies and had been signed into law in 2013. It is expected to come into effect during 2019 after which organisations will have two years to comply. See

  • Is Navic.Cloud Tamper Proof?

    No system is completely tamper proof? That is why Navic.Cloud has implemented special precautions in order to ensure the least likelihood of tampering. We have further implemented a structure preventing the deletion of ANY data and utilising immutable logs and methodologies to ensure that any changes to or access to data is not only traceable but alerts are actively sent to custodians on which to act.

  • Alert Room Services?

    NAVIC™ provides the NNOC (National NAVIC™ Operations Centre) being a 24×7 manned facility for the real time management, human intervention, verification, and otherwise support of Navic.Cloud and its Operations. NAVIC™ provides the ability for customers to run their own “Operations Centre”, either centrally or distributed, and provide NAVIC™’s “Alert Room” set of functions such that our client can monitor their camera infrastructure and implement their own policies and information distribution/propagation as they may choose.

  • Role of Custodians?

    Navic.Cloud has a built in human Intervention function in order to provide a verification function to check legal compliance in the use of Navic.Cloud. The Custodians act as an independent body to ensure this compliance and are provided with a set of tools in order to be alerted or and the ability to check whether users are utilising Navic.Cloud legally, and the ability to determine via immutable logs the activities of any and all users, including system administrators or software maintenance engineers.

  • Can I load a vehicle?

    Anyone can apply to join Navic.Cloud (see ) and thereby be of service to their community. Alternatively contact your local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) administrator, Community Policing Forum (CPF) administrator, or local SAPS Station. Ask them to load your vehicle associated with a crime – See “How do I load a vehicle?” below

  • How do I load a vehicle?

    Once you have identified a crime the best is to report it and get a case number and related details from a SAPS Station. Should urgency dictate that you do not have the above, then you’ll be doing an “Urgent Load” in which case you have 48 hours to get and load this detail. Contact a Navic.Cloud registered individual (see above) and provide date/time, location and type of offence. Also provide an accurate description of the vehicle including make, model, colour, year of first registration, Number plate, and VIN number if possible. If available provide the case number,  Police Station where the case was lodged, the Investigating Officer’s Rank and Name and phone number, and any Instructions the Officer requests should we find the vehicle.

    Please note that you will be held liable, and subject to prosecution should you act to misuse or abuse NAVIC Cloud as stipulated in the various stringent terms stipulated.

  • Can NAVIC™ remove certain images from the data storage?

    No this is not possible, by design. In order to ensure untainted data no person, at NAVIC™ or otherwise, may add, remove or alter any image feed by any camera to the Navic.Cloud system. NAVIC™’s system has specific checks and balances all fully automated in sequential logs and with numbering systems with which each image is tagged. This is to ensure that an Advocate defendant in a court of law cannot sew doubt in evidence gathered by NAVIC™.

  • What is the relationship between Visec and NAVIC™?

    NAVIC™, previous called Visec Sub Sahara (Pty) Ltd, is a company that purchased the largest and original ANPR (Automated Number Plate Recognition, also known as LPR) footprint of cameras and associated system/software and all rights thereto, the “Visec” brand, and an existing network of clients, users, and cameras providing intelligence services to the security industry in Sub Saharan Africa and specifically South Africa. We have outgrown the very limiting and “two-dimensional” services provided by the Visec ANPR system. NAVIC™ represents our vision which far exceeds the basic structure and service provision that was Visec.

  • Are there specific laws or bylaws managing the use of CCTV type cameras?

    Currently there is no legislative framework for the use of “CCTV cameras” for either public or private use. And although the expectation of the use of these cameras is for crime related events the use thereof is not limited to this application alone. NAVIC™ will participate in legislative processes, engage with and assist industry related bodies, and obviously comply with any ratified regulations. Has there been previous case law relating to privacy infringements via recordings in public spaces? Not that NAVIC™ is aware of. All advice acquired to date says NAVIC™’s services are fully legal. Notwithstanding this, and due to the promulgation of the PoPI Act in July 2020, NAVIC™ is currently engaging a respected legal specialist to compile a formal legal opinion.

  • Does NAVIC™ associate a citizen’s name or personal credentials with content acquired in public spaces?

    No. According to NAVIC™ this is illegal and infringes privacy laws. Further any potential compromise of this data could be damaging on the individuals.

  • What is NCMISS?

    NCMISS is Navic.Cloud’s (NC) adoption of the MISS (“Minimum Information Security Standards”) being the Act approved by parliament on the 4th December 1996 ratifying the requirements by organisations/structures handling confidential and secure information while ensuring “the secrecy and therefore security measures” of this information (see The NCMISS, without confidential Annexures, can be found here

  • What is PSIRA?

    PSIRA is an Organisation brought into being by an act of parliament in order to establish a body for the regulation of Security providers in South Africa. We find it strange that NAVIC is the only company that provides ANPR Services to be PSIRA registered. See –
