DEEP CLONE MV RECOVERED
📍Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal | 2022/06/18

6 different vehicles were seen on NAVIC.Cloud, driving with the same registration plates.

1 of these vehicles was picked up by a NAVIC Mobile covert unit in Newcastle KZN.

The deep-cloned vehicle was inspected by the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit and established positively stolen on a Honeydew case for January 2022.

Syndicates operating Nationally, clone stolen vehicles and often it's the unsuspecting driver/owner who is unaware they are in possession of a stolen vehicle. In this instance, no arrests were made, however, the vehicle was recovered and booked into SAPS pound.

Special thanks to Newcastle Highway Patrol & local CPF members who assisted.

CLONED VEHICLE RECOVERED
📍Katlehong, Gauteng | 2022/06/10

On the 6th of June 2022, the team at EMPD STT came across a suspicious vehicle in the Zonkizizwe, Katlehong, Gauteng Area. During their onsite investigation, the team was unable to obtain proof of ownership of the vehicle and requested a follow-up investigation on NAVIC.Cloud, which one of our partners aided with.

The investigation revealed an identical vehicle, with the same registration number travelling in the Wellington, Western Cape area. Given that the same vehicle was captured by Navic.Cloud ANPR cameras in the Wellington area the day before, it seemed unlikely that it was indeed the same vehicle.

Only by carefully scrutinizing the photographs of the suspicious vehicle, as well as the images of the vehicle in the Western Cape was it possible to identify minute differences between the 2 vehicles. The pertinent information was relayed to the EMPD members on the scene.

SAPS was able to recover and seize the vehicle as a cloned vehicle based on the evidence acquired during the vehicle picture comparison.

STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED
📍De Doorns, Western Cape | 2022/06/08

An Isuzu Truck initially stolen in Ravensmead in Cape Town triggered numerous NAVIC ANPR cameras in the farm areas of De Doorns.

Members of the rural Flying Squad acted on this valuable Intel via NAVIC.Cloud and arrested 3 suspects and recovered the Truck.

Here’s 3 tips for-cargo-theft-prevention:
#1: Make Use of Technology
If your company runs a fleet of trucks, technology investments for prevention of cargo theft should be high on the list of security priorities.

#2: Park Trucks Tail-to-Tail
This is a simple precaution your drivers can take when they are away from base with a load and need to stop for their rest breaks.
Train your drivers to stop at locations where there are plenty of other trucks pulled up. Ask them to get into the habit of parking tail-to-tail or with the rear cargo doors hard up against a wall or other solid surface.
This protects the rear trailer doors from being broken into—something that can otherwise happen even while a driver sleeps in his cab. If you have many trucks parked in your storage facility with goods on board, the tail-to-tail parking method can also help to keep vehicles secure in your yard.

#3: Don’t Forget Lo-tech Security Too
Even the use of plenty of locks and seals on your fleet’s cargo trailers can make the difference between a load making it safely to its destination or not. While simple measures like these may not stop the most determined and organized criminals, it will at least keep your loads safe from opportunist thieves.
